NBRP Fundamental Technologies Upgrading Program Project's Progress

Medaka

Focus Development of standard strains for the functional analysis of medaka genes
Principal Investigator Minoru Tanaka   National Institute for Basic Biology
Project Period FY2007–2009
Overview This project involves developing a medaka strain that permits induced expression of a selected gene in a specific area of the body. We will attempt to identify the control region and inducing factors capable of inducing expression and study ways to produce vectors, including these, as well as methods of gene introduction. Using this technology and the vectors, we will produce a driver strain of medaka and inducer strain of medaka prospectively capable of expressing a selected gene to determine the optimal conditions for in vivo induction. The Laboratory of Molecular Genetics for Reproduction within the National Institute for Basic Biology will be responsible for this development project.
